Joe D'Amico's NCAAF Diamond Winner
Virginia Tech vs. Pittsburgh,
09/15/2012 12:00 EDT,
Score: 17 - 35
Point Spread: -10/-105 Virginia Tech
Today's winner is Virginia Tech over Pittsburgh. This is my Diamond winner.
Virginia Tech has the nation's longest true road win streak at 13 games. The team outscored both Georgia Tech and Austin Peay, 62-24 to start this campaign 2-0. Their defense returns 9 starters from a group that ranked 8th in the nation in total "D" last season. QB, Logan Thomas has a 59% CR, 442 YP 4 TDs, and 0 INTs, while the running corps is stacked, as they are led by Michael Holmes and JC Coleman (combined 143 YR and 2 TDs). Pitt is 0-2, losing to both Yougstown State (as an 18 1/2 pt. fav) and Cincinnati. QB, Tino Sunseri can't get in sync. This is in part due to a paper-thin OL. In the loss to Cincy, Pittsburgh had an edge in size on both the offensive and defensive lines but it didn't matter. Their lines are slow, slow, slow. They have no pass rush, ranking 109th in sacks and TFL. The Panthers young "D" had a total of 10 players make their first-ever starts in the L2 outings. The Hokies are 29-14 ATS their L43 road games while the Panthers are 2-8-1 ATS their L11 games played in September. Take Virginia Tech. Thank you.
