4* Over/Under Total Annihilator: OVER 57
I expect both teams to put up points in bunches, which has me laying a solid bet on this game to go over the total of 57.
The Cal offense has six starters coming back on an offense that averaged 28.3 ppg and 401 total yards. I don't see any reason they won't put up similar numbers this season. They get back starting quarterback Zach Maynard, one of the top wide outs in the country in Keenan Allen, and leading rusher Isi Sofele.
The Golden Bears offense should have their way with a Nevada defense that must replace their top tacklers in Brandon Marshall (103 tackles) and James-Michael Johnson (100 tackles). They get back just four of their top 9 tacklers in all. I look for their defense to take some major steps in the wrong direction this season.
Things looks much better for the Nevada offense. The Wolf Pack have been one of the top scoring offenses in the country for years. They put up 31.7 ppg and 507 total yards/game last year and have averaged over 30 for 6+ seasons.
Cal was solid defensively last year, allowing just 24.2 ppg, but they lose their top 5 tacklers and six of their top 7 overall. The lack of experience on that side of the ball, will make it extremely hard for them to be effective against the unique Pistol offense of Nevada.
If both offense have the success that I expect, I think these two teams could combine for more than 70 points, giving us plenty of room to spare. BET THE OVER!
