Joe D'Amico's MLB NL Central Game of the Month
St. Louis vs. Pittsburgh,
08/27/2012 19:05 EDT,
Score: 4 - 3
Money Line: -115 St. Louis
Today's winner is St. Louis over Pittsburgh. This is my NL Central GoM.
St. Louis has taken 5 of their L6 overall, including 2 of 3 over an NL Central leading Cincinnati. The Cardinals have a piece of the WC right now and are two full games ahead of the Pirates. Pittsburgh has lost 5 of their L6 to both Milwaukee and San Diego. Both are sub .500 teams. St. Louis ranks 2nd in Baseball in both RPG (4.94) and BA (.277). Today the team expects the return of 3B and .299 hitter, David Freese. The offense consists of Molina, Holliday, Beltran, Furcal, Craig, Jay, Schumaker, and Carpenter as it is. From top to bottom, this is one loaded lineup. Kyle Lohse will get the start. The RH is 13-2 with an ERA of 2.61 this season, including a 6-1 road mark. The NL's Leader in winning percentage hasn't allowed more than four hits in his four starts this month, while lasting at least six innings in each of those outings. He holds an 8-2 lifetime record vs. Pittsburgh, which consists of a 1-0, 1.29 ERA in 7.0 IP earlier this season. Pitt slugger, Andrew McCutchen ranks 2nd in the Majors with a .343 BA but is just 6 for 38 in the L8 games. The CF's slump has proven to be fatal for the offense. The lineup just isn't producing. The team sends AJ Burnett to the mound. The RH is 15-4 this season but got shellacked by St. Louis back in April for 12 runs in 2 2/3 IP. Over his career, Burnett is 5-4 against the Red Birds. The Cardinals are 4-1 their L5 games played at the Pirates and 20-7 in Lohse's L27 starts as a favorite. The Pirates are 3-8 their L11 games played at home and 1-5 their L6 games played against RH starters. Take St. Louis. Thank you.
