Joe D'Amico's MLB 7-3 Diamond Winner
St. Louis vs. Colorado,
08/02/2012 20:40 EDT,
Score: 2 - 8
Money Line: -144 St. Louis
Today's winner is St. Louis over Colorado. This is my Diamond Play.
Put aside that St. Louis has taken 4 straight and 5 of 6 over Colorado this year. Forget that they have outscored the Rockies by 4 RPG in this series. Write off the fact that Colorado has lost 5 in a row and 8 of their L9 overall. But, remember that the Rockies own the 2nd worst record in baseball at 37-65 and that the Cardinals possess the NL's best winning % in the month of August (.585, 197-140) since 2000. St. Louis is 7 GB of Cincinnati in the NL Central and is less than a handful of wins away from the WC spot. Ex-Rockie, Matt Holliday is shredding his old team, going 5 for 9, with 3 HRs, and 9 RBIs so far in this series. Lance Lynn takes the bump here. The RH is 13-4 TY, including a 7-2 away record, and earning a July 5th victory over Colorado. The team wins leader faces a Rockies squad that is being outscored this season by just about a full RPG. The lineup is sorely missing Tulowitzki, Nelson, Giambi, Blackmon, and most likely Fowler (check status). Alex White is expected to start, being recalled from Triple A ball. The RH is 2-6 with a 6.44 ERA, not lasting more than 4.0 IP in his L3 outings at this level. The Cardinals are 4-1 their L5 games played at the Rockies, 13-3 their L16 games played overall vs. the Rockies, and 13-1 in Lynn's L14 starts vs. teams with a losing record. The Rockies are 7-26 their L33 games played as a home 'dog, 0-5 their L5 games played vs. RH starters, and 1-7 in Whites L8 starts as a 'dog. Take St. Louis. Thank you.
