Today's winner is Pittsburgh over Detroit. This is my Grand Slam winner.
Pittsburgh has been a team on the rise lately. The Pirates are just 2 GB behind the Reds for the top spot in the NL Central. The Bucs have won 4 of their L5, boast a 21-12 home record, and have won 4 consecutive home series. Their bats come alive. Just in their L9 outings, Pitt has scored 6 or more runs six times. Andrew McCutchen leads the lineup with a .339 BA, .574 Slugging %, 82 hits, and 42 RBIs. Only Pablo Alvarez has more HRs with 13 compared to 12 round trippers for McCutchen. They send AJ Burnett to the mound. The RH is 7-2 with a 3.52 ERA this season including a perfect 4-0, 1.27 mark at home. Burnett has won his last 3 starts, and holds a lifetime record of 6-2 vs. Detroit, including a win in his only matchup with the Tigers this season. Detroit has fallen to third place in the AL Central, despite a 6-3 mark in their L9 contests. But looking at those 9 games, they played a 35-35 St. Louis club, a 26-42 Colorado squad, and just about the worst team in baseball, the 24-45 Chicago Cubs. Doug Fister goes to the bump today for Detroit. The RH is 1-3 on the season, including an 0-2 road record. In his 4 road starts this season, the team is 0-4 behind him. The Tigers are 1-4 their L5 games played at the Pirates, 1-6 their L7 in Game 1 of a series, and 1-5 in Fisters L6 overall starts. The Pirates are 6-1 their L7 games played at home, 4-1 their L5 Interleague games, and 8-0 Burnetts L8 road starts. Take Pittsburgh. Thank you.
