Joe D'Amico's MLB AL Game of the Month
Seattle vs. Tampa Bay,
04/30/2012 19:10 EDT,
Score: 2 - 3
Money Line: -134 Tampa Bay
Today's winner is Tampa Bay over Seattle. This is my AL Game of the Month.
Tampa Bay is red-hot, winning 7 of their L8. They are now tied with Baltimore for the top spot in the competitive AL East. They return home where they boast an 8-1 record, which is tops in baseball. As a matter of fact, the Rays have taken 36 of 52 at Tropicana Field. Overall TB averages 4.68 RPG and ranks 5th in HRs with 28 round-trippers. Their lineup has 7 batters with 15 or more hits, 5 players that are in DDs in runs scored, and each of Longoria, Pena, Zobrist, and Scott are RBI machines, combining for 60 runs batted in. Today, Jeremy Hellickson gets the nod. The RH is 3-0 with a 2.84 mark on the season, including a 2-0, 0.61 ERA at home. In his career, the pitcher has been a nightmare for Seattle, going 3-0 with an 0.81 ERA. The M's hitters are just 13 for 67 against him. Seattle ranks in the bottom of a ton of categories, including RPG (4.00), BA (.239), OPS (.666), HRs (20), and SBs (12). Not a single batter is even near .300. The lineup has no power. Montero and Saunders are the only two hitters in DDs in RBIs. Felix Hernandez starts today. The RH is 2-1 this season. But it doesn't matter. With absolutely no run support, and playing in Tampa Bay, Seattle has no hope here. The Mariners are 0-4 their L4 meetings with the Rays, 1-7 their L8 games played at the Rays, 7-20 their L27 games vs. the AL East, and 20-45 their L65 games played vs. teams with a winning record. The Rays are 23-7 their L30 games played as a home favorite, 7-3 in Hellicksons L10 overall starts, 5-1 their L6 games played against the AL West, and 54-25 their L79 games played vs. teams with a losing record. take Tampa Bay. Thank you.
