Joe D'Amico's NCAAF Conf USA Game of the Month
Rice vs. UTSA,
10/12/2013 16:00 EDT,
Score: 27 - 21
Point Spread: +1½/-102 Rice
Saturday's winner is Rice over UTSA. This is my Conf USA GOM.
UTSA comes off of two straight loss and no-covers against Houston and Marshall, as their defense was exploited for 93 total points in those contests. Their "D" is missing CB, Henricks, DT, Neill, and Safety, Sanchez all to injury. That is a big part of why they rank 106th, allowing 35.5 PPG. The Roadrunners have no ground game to speak of and with Kam Jones (101 rushing yards and 222 receiving yards) questionable with a concussion, this will only make matters worse. The offense is in the hands of QB, Eric Soza who has more INTs than TDs (9/8). Rice opened up their season with a respectable loss to Texas A&M, 52-31. they then went out and beat 3 of their next 4 foes, including a big victory over Tulsa LW, 30-27. This unit runs the ball well with five 100+ yard rushers, led by Charles Ross (319 YR and 4 TDs). They average over 208.6 YPG on the ground. The Owls are bowl-bound again and will trample over the inferior UTSA team here. Ross did sit out the Tulsa game but is expected to play here, especially against the cushy UTSA "D". The Owls are 4-0 ATS their L4 games played in October, 4-0 ATS their L4 games played on the road, and 9-3 ATS their L12 games played overall. Take Rice. Thank you.
