New Mexico vs. Texas El Paso, 09/07/2013 20:00 EDT, Score: 42 - 35

Point Spread: -6/-106 Texas El Paso

Sportsbook: Pinnacle

Result: Loss

New Mexico looked horrible in their week one loss to UTSA. The Lobos came into that game as 3.5-point favorites, and ended up losing outright by 8-points. They have now lost seven straight games after finishing the 2012 season with six consecutive losses. Over the past four years New Mexico has a 7-41 record. The Lobos have just four starters returning on defense and will start from scratch in the secondary.

The Miners picked up a solid transfer from Texas A&M at the quarterback position. Jameill Showers should bring a dynamic that this team has not seen in recent years. Jordan Leslie should make the quarterback job look easy, coming off a 973 yard season with six touchdowns. The defense was soft last season, but they have Horace Miller coming off a six sack season on the end, and Germard Reed who had seven tackles for a loss last year playing the defensive tackle position. Richard Spencer, the team’s defensive leader at Safety was out with a knee injury and figures to make an immediate impact on this defense.

The Lobos are 0-5 in their last five games against Conference USA opponents. They are also 2-7 in their last nine non-conference games overall. The Miners own a 5-2 ATS record in their last seven games against the Mountain West, along with a 5-2 ATS record in their last seven non-conference games overall. These teams moved in opposite directions in the offseason, and the Miners should have no problem dominating the Lobos from the start of this game.
