8* Sunday MLB OAK/BOS
Boston vs. Oakland,
07/14/2013 16:05 EDT,
Score: 2 - 3
Money Line: -155 Oakland
The Oakland Athletics host the Boston Red Sox on Sunday in game three of a three-game set.
The Athletics send out Bartolo Colon for this game. Colon has been a monster over his last 10 games. In those 10 contests he is 9-1 with a 1.48 ERA and 1.11 WHIP.
The Red Sox have struggled versus Colon, even prior to his reaching his current, dominant form.
Since joining the A’s, Colon has taken the hill versus the Red Sox twice, allowing only one earned run over 13 innings of work, posting a 0.77 WHIP in those games. Oakland won those contests by a combined score of 16-2.
The Athletics are 13-3 in Colon’s last 16 home starts.
The Red Sox counter with Brandon Workman. This will be Workman’s first career start, but we caught a glimpse of what he can do in a relief appearance against Seattle.
Workman has all of two innings of Major League experience, and in those two innings he surrendered four hits and three earned runs for an ERA of 13.50 and a WHIP of 2.00.
Another hurdle the Red Sox will have to climb in this one: this game marks the end of a long 10-day West Coast road swing which has seen the team spend plenty of time on a plane, and with the All Star break just a day away, they’ll have a tough time avoiding looking forward at the week ahead, and at the long flight that awaits them at the conclusion of this game.
The Athletics are 14-3 in Colon’s last 17 starts as a favorite, and 21-6 in his last 27 starts overall.
Good Luck, Razor Ray
