The Boston Red Sox host the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday afternoon in game two of a two-game set.
John Lackey takes the hill for the host side on Wednesday. Lackey remains one of the most underappreciated commodities in baseball this season.
Lackey lost just about all the faith that Red Sox fans and bettors had in him with a miserable 2011 season, and he fuelled that fire by making some disparaging comments about teammates along the way, then getting hurt and missing the entire 2012 season.
Lackey is back for the Red Sox, and he’s returned to the form we remember from Anaheim.
Lackey has thrown six quality starts in his last seven outings. In those games he has posted a 2.42 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP, and limited opposing hitters to a .228 clip.
Lackey’s been even better at home. His 1.04 home ERA is best among starters who have recorded at least two outings in their home ballpark. He’s also posted a 0.92 WHIP and .189 BAA at Fenway.
Roy Oswalt counters for the Rockies. Oswalt’s 7.20 ERA helps boost this total, but a closer look shows Oswalt’s outing wasn’t all that bad after all.
Oswalt allowed four runs over five innings of work in his first start, but what’s impressive is that he struck out 11 batters.
The under is 9-2-1 in Lackey’s starts this season. Take the UNDER.
Good Luck, Razor Ray
