Joe D's MLB Value Play of the Month
Kansas City vs. Detroit,
04/24/2013 19:05 EDT,
Score: 5 - 7
Money Line: +170 Kansas City
Today's winner is Kansas City over Detroit. This is my Value Play of the Month.
KC has won their L2 and 8 of their L10, while Detroit is riding a 4-game skid in which they have been outscored 24-4, blanking twice. The Tigers are not driving in runs as they are 5 for 52 with runners in scoring position over their L6 games. They have slipped down to 3rd place in the Central at 9-9. Fielder had a few hits in the last game but prior to that, the 1B was 3-22 with 10 Ks. Only two players are in DDs in RBI's (Fielder and Cabrera) while the team overall has tallied 132 Ks. They are hitting, with a .274 Team BA, but rank in the bottom half in just about every other category. Max Scherzer takes the mound. He is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA this season but has given up 16 hits in 19 IP. In his career, the RH is 6-4 with a 3.48 mark vs. Kansas City. The Royals are leading the Central, sporting a 10-7 mark, winning their L2 on the road in Boston. The offense ranks 5th in Team BA at .264 and have stolen 13 bases thus far. KC is also 5th in the League in pitching with a staff ERA of 3.31. Wade Davis gets the nod. The RH is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA. After a shaky debut, the crafty moundsman has thrown 12 scoreless innings, blanking Minnesota and Atlanta, fanning 13 and allowing just 9 hits. No way does the slumping Tigers with a non-scoring lineup deserve to be this price. The Royals are 4-0 their L4 game played against the AL Central, 6-1 their L7 as a road 'dog of +201 or higher, and 8-3 their L11 games played vs. RH starters. Take Kansas City. Thank you.
