5* NFL Playoffs Game of the Year on Giants +3
The Giants are a better team than they were when they lost 27-20 in San Francisco on Nov. 13. That bodes well for us considering they outgained the 49ers by 90 yards in that contest. The Giants cost themselves by settling for a pair of field goals early on and still had a chance to tie the game with the ball in the red zone late.
That was a regular season game. With the stakes raised, I won't hesitate to side with the more proven Eli Manning, who has won a NFC title game on the road and made clutch throws in a Super Bowl victory. Alex Smith hadn't even had a breakthrough performance until last weekend.
While San Francisco has the higher rated defense, I think the New York "D" is peaking at just the right time. It was a ferocious pass rush that led the G-Men to the Super Bowl a few seasons back, and that rush has come alive in these playoffs. They sacked Aaron Rodgers 4 times last week.
History is hugely on our side here considering plays on road underdogs or pickems looking to avenge a same season loss, provided they are a good team (winning 60% to 75% of their games) playing a team with a winning record, are 29-11 ATS the last 10 seasons.
It also can't be ignored that the Giants are 6-0 ATS in road games in the playoffs under coach Coughlin, winning them by an average score of 23.7 to 18.0.
Experience means a lot in big games, and I like the Giants' experience Sunday.
