Score: 58 - 59
Point Spread: +3½/-110 Davidson
The Marquette Golden Eagles will battle the Davidson Wildcats in East Region action on Thursday.
Davidson holds the distinction of bringing the nation’s longest winning streak into the tournament, having won 17-consecutive games.
Those wins propelled the Wildcats to Southern Conference regular season, and tournament crowns.
Davidson has played some tough opponents this year, and has held double-digit leads over Gonzaga and New Mexico.
Despite being ranked only 14th, no team has an edge over the Wildcats in free throw percentage. Davidson’s free throw percentage of 80.1 percent ranks highest in the nation, a skill that is especially important in this tournament.
As for this matchup, Davidson will look to exploit their advantage from beyond the arc. Marquette ranked near the bottom of the Big East in 3-point field goal defense, allowing opponents to convert at a .318 percent clip.
Marquette is coming off a loss against Notre Dame. The Duke Blue Devils are the only team seeded higher than Marquette among teams that dropped their first conference tournament game.
Even more important for our purposes, the Golden Eagles have failed to cover the spread in their last three games.
The Wildcats are 4-1 ATS in their last five NCAA Tournament games. Take Davidson.
Good Luck, Razor Ray
