9* Friday CBB COL/ILL
Colorado vs. Illinois,
03/22/2013 16:40 EDT,
Score: 49 - 57
Point Spread: -1/-110 Illinois
The Illinois Fighting Illini battle the Colorado Buffaloes in East Region play on Friday.
Illinois’ 8-10 record in the Big Ten isn’t anything to write home about, but the fact that they received an at-large bid and a No. 7 seed speaks to their makeup.
The Illini rank third in the nation in wins versus Top 25 RPI opponents with six, including a win at Gonzaga, and another versus Indiana.
The team’s 8-10 record in conference play shouldn’t carry much weight either, as the team closed the year 6-3 in Big Ten play after a 2-7 start. A late season win over Indiana and a pair of wins versus Minnesota headline that turnaround.
The Illini rely heavily on guard play, and the ability of those guards to knock down shots from distance. Illinois jacks up 24 3-point attempts per game, and if they can convert on those shots at a high rate, they will make a lot of noise in this tournament.
Illinois guard Brandon Paul ranked fourth in the Big Ten in scoring with 16.6 points per game.
The Buffaloes enter the tournament having dropped three of their last five games.
The Fighting Illini defeated two NCAA Tournament No. 1 seeds during the regular season. Take Illinois.
Good Luck, Razor Ray
