Score: 31 - 45
Point Spread: -2½/-115 San Francisco
The San Francisco 49ers host the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs on Saturday. These teams met in Week 1, with San Francisco coming out on top, 30-22.
The 49ers are 13-2-1 at Candlestick Park under Jim Harbaugh. Colin Kaepernick and Frank Gore have the offense rolling, while the defense should get a big boost from the return of Justin Smith.
Kaepernick has shown he can play with the elite quarterbacks in the league, accounting for six total touchdowns in wins over Drew Brees and Tom Brady. Under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, the 49ers have allowed an average of just 13.9 points per home game.
Green Bay’s win over Minnesota last week put some of their weaknesses on display. The team’s lack of depth at receiver due to injury is starting to become a problem. Jordy Nelson and Jermichael Finley missed practice time this week, and it was clear last week that Rodgers and Nelson in particular had timing issues.
Also, Rodgers was sacked three times, adding to his league-leading total this season. He could be in for a long day against a San Francisco defense that has limited opposing passers to just 200.2 yards per game, the fourth best mark in the NFL.
The Vikings didn't give the Packers much of a test last weekend, but the 49ers showed a year ago that they are a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs. Take San Francisco.
