Milwaukee vs. St. Louis, 08/02/2014 19:15 EDT

Money Line: +114 Milwaukee

Saturday MLB Free Play from Doc’s Sports Take #907 Milwaukee Brewers over St. Louis Cardinals (Saturday, 7:15pm EST) The Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals are in the midst of a huge series as they battle for first place in the NL Central. The Brewers have been one of the biggest stories of the 2014 season as they have maintained the top spot in the division for virtually the entire campaign. After 110 games into the season, it’s safe to say that the Brewers are no fluke. They have a well-balanced team without any major weaknesses and they’ve withstood the pressure of keeping the top spot. Kyle Lohse gets the ball for Milwaukee in this one. The veteran right-hander has put together one of his best seasons of his career as he checks in at 11-5 with a 3.07 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. Lohse is a gamer and I see him finishing strong as the Brewers look to secure a spot in the postseason. He’ll get a Cardinals lineup that has vastly underachieved this season. The Cards are 14th in the NL in runs scored, ahead of only the lowly Padres. They also just traded away one of their big bats in Allen Craig to bring in John Lackey. One of the other trades they made was to acquire Justin Masterson, who makes his debut in the National League today. Masterson has had a terrible season that was exacerbated by a recent knee injury. He enters the matchup with a 5.51 ERA and was equally as bad in his minor league rehab starts where he posted a 5.40 ERA. He also walked six batters in his last rehab start before being traded, which isn’t a good sign. It’s going to take Masterson some time to get back into form and adjust to a new league. As a result, I like the Brewers to get the win here. Football is back and Doc’s Sports has a selection from the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, OH. Doc’s Sports went 9-3 last year in the NFL Preseason so jump on board the victory train now!

Toronto vs. Houston, 08/01/2014 20:10 EDT

Money Line: -113 Toronto

Toronto Blue Jays -118

The Jays have been playing inspired baseball since the break. They didn’t make any moves at the break so they should be focused on taking advantage of this series against Houston and getting players healthy for the stretch run.

Starter J.A. Happ is underrated because of his consistency but he should be able to be solid enough to win against the Astros who are missing their biggest bat in the form of super looking rookie George Springer.

Chi Cubs vs. LA Dodgers, 08/01/2014 22:10 EDT

Total: +105/+7 Under

Friday MLB Free Play from Doc’s Sports Take Chicago Cubs/Los Angeles Dodgers UNDER (Friday, 10:10pm EST) The Chicago Cubs head west on Friday night to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kyle Hendricks is schedule to get the nod for the Cubs and I’ve been really impressed with the moxie this young man has shown so far. In his first three starts he has posted a miniscule 2.33 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with a solid 14-6 K/BB ratio. He has also been impressive at every level of the minor leagues, so he could be here to stay. The Dodgers have never seen Hendricks, so he should have the upper hand the first time or two through the order. Chicago will face Dan Haren, a guy that has had an up and down season with the Dodgers. He comes into Friday’s matchup with a 4.49 ERA, but he’s pitched much better than that. He has a very respectable 92-26 K/BB ratio on the season, but he’s had problems with runners on base. If he can get that straightened out, he should be an asset to the team as they look to lock up a playoff spot. The Cubs could be a little bit fatigued as they have to travel in from Chicago without a day off. That’s not an easy trip during the dog days of summer and the hitters usually suffer. I think this one could turn into a bit of a pitcher’s duel, so we’ll play under the total. Football is just moments away and Doc’s Sports 2014 Football Packages are now posted.
