The favorites may have had the two-to-one edge against the spread in Week 11 of the NFL season, but last week belonged to the underdogs with teams getting points covering in nine of the 14 games. For the second week in a row the total was evenly split with seven games going OVER and seven staying UNDER as the Oddsmakers continue to tighten up their late season lines. Each and every week of the season NFL Betting Trends will dig a bit deeper into the numbers for a few of the bigger matchups on the schedule to give you the inside edge when it comes to wagering on the games. All betting lines and odds quoted have been provided by 5Dimes.

There is a trio of games on this Thursday’s NFL slate in light of the Thanksgiving Holiday. Detroit will kick things off in a huge divisional showdown against the Green Bay Packers. Both teams have been struggling as of late, but the winner of this game will have sole possession of the NFC North lead at least until Chicago plays on Sunday. The Packers come in at 5-5-1 with Aaron Rodgers still on the shelf with a shoulder injury and they have been listed as seven-point underdogs against the 6-5 Lions. The total for this game has been set at 50.

Later Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers will try and battle their way back to .500 after starting the season with four straight losses. They will be on the road against Baltimore, which is also 5-6 on the year after this past Sunday’s 19-3 victory over the Jets as a four-point home favorite. The Ravens had lost four of their previous five games before grinding out that win. They have been listed as 2.5-point favorites at home for this divisional battle and the total has been set at 40.

Sunday’s games starts things off with a key NFC matchup between the 7-4 Arizona Cardinals and the 6-5 Philadelphia Eagles, who are both trying to work their way back into the playoffs this season. The Cardinals hammered Indianapolis 40-11 last Sunday as one-point home favorites. It was their fourth win in a row. The Eagles went into last week’s bye with a three-game winning streak and they have been listed as three-point home favorites for this contest. The total has been set at 48.5.

The hottest team in the NFC is the Carolina Panthers, who extended their winning streak to seven games with a last-minute 20-16 victory over Miami last Sunday as 4.5-point favorites on the road. This Sunday they will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a NFC South divisional matchup. Tampa Bay has won its last three games after starting the season 0-8. It comes into this game as a 9.5-point underdog and the total has been set at 41.5.

Turning to the AFC, the 8-3 New England Patriots are the new toast of the conference after last Sunday night’s 34-31 overtime victory over Denver in a game they trailed 24-0 at the half. New England was a 2.5-point underdog at home in that showdown, but this Sunday it heads on the road as a 9.5-point favorite against a Houston Texans’ team that has not won a game since mid-September. The total for this contest has been set at 47.

The other big matchup in the AFC takes us out to the West for a rematch between 9-2 Denver and the 9-2 Kansas City Chiefs. These two met in Week 11 with the Broncos coming away with a 27-17 victory as 7.5-point home favorites. This time around, Denver has been listed as a 3.5-point road favorite with the total set at 48.5.
