The Oddsmakers kept the lines razor thin for the second week in a row in the NFL with the favorites posting a slight 8-7 edge over the underdogs against the spread. Another repeating trend from the previous week saw the total go OVER in nine of the 15 games as scoring remained higher than expected just like it did in Week 6. To get you ready for each and every week of the season, NFL Betting Trends will dig a bit deeper into the numbers for a few of the bigger matchups on the schedule. All betting lines and odds quoted have been provided by 5Dimes.

The 4-3 Dallas Cowboys took the outright lead in the NFC East with last Sunday’s 17-3 victory over Philadelphia as three-point road underdogs while improving to a profitable 6-1 against the spread. They will try and extend their current two-game winning streak this Sunday as three-point road underdogs against Detroit. The Lions are coming off a tough 27-24 loss to Cincinnati as 2.5-point home favorites to fall to 4-3 SU and ATS on the year. The total for this NFC clash has been set at 51.

The AFC East title race remains wide open with just two games separating first from last place. This Sunday, the 3-3 (both SU and ATS) Miami Dolphins will look to further close that gap with a trip to Foxborough to face the 5-2 SU New England Patriots. Miami is coming off a tight 23-21 loss to Buffalo as a six-point home favorite, while the Patriots were stunned by the Jets 30-27 as 3.5-point favorites on the road. New England has been opened as a seven-point home favorite for this week’s division showdown with the total set at 45.

Sunday’s late games features a classic AFC battle between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Oakland Raiders. Both teams come into this contest with matching 2-4 records, but the Steelers are riding a two-game winning streak while Oakland has lost three of its last four games. Pittsburgh is also 2-4 ATS and the total has stayed UNDER in four of its first six games. The Raiders are 3-2-1 ATS and the total has stayed UNDER in five of their six games this year. The current line for this game has the Steelers favored by 2.5 points on the road with the total set at 40.5.

The Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings will share the national stage this Sunday night in a matchup between two longtime NFC North rivals. The Packers come into this game with the lead in the division at 4-2 both SU and ATS after beating Cleveland last Sunday 31-13 as 7.5-point home favorites. Minnesota fell to 1-5 SU (2-4 ATS) after losing to the Giants 23-7 as a four-point road underdog this past Monday night. Green Bay has been opened as a prohibitive 10.5-point road favorite for this contest with the total set at 46.5.

The Seattle Seahawks have quickly established themselves as one of the top two teams in the NFC this season with a 6-1 SU record through their first seven games. They are a profitable 5-2 ATS and the total has gone OVER in four of their last five games. This Monday night they will square-off against the St. Louis Rams in a NFC West tilt. The Rams not only lost to Carolina 30-15 as 7.5-point road underdogs last week they also lost their starting quarterback Sam Bradford for the season with a torn ACL. Given its dire situation as this position it is no big surprise that St. Louis is a 10.5-point home underdog against Seattle. The total for this game has been set at 42.
