College Football Betting Trends- Week 6 Matchups
As we head into Week 6 of the college football season the games start to take on much more meaning with conference play underway in all of Division IA. Only two teams can play for a national title at the end of the season, but the race for conference titles, conference championship games and invitations to major bowls will take shape from here on in starting with a number of intriguing matchups on this Saturday’s schedule.
No.7 Louisville will be back in action against the Temple Owls in the first American Athletic Conference showdown for both teams. The 4-0 Cardinals have been opened by 5Dimes as prohibitive 33.5-point road favorites against the 0-4 Owls in a 12 p.m. start. No.8 Florida State will face No. 25 Maryland in an ACC Atlantic Division clash at 12 p.m. as well. The Seminoles have been opened as 15-point home favorites for that game.
The top two teams in the country decided to take a week off while still playing an actual game. The No. 1 Crimson Tide will play host to D-IAA Georgia State in a 12:21 p.m. start as 55.5-point favorites, while the No. 2 Oregon Ducks will be on the road against Colorado as 38-point favorites in a 6 p.m. kickoff.
There are a couple of quality matchups between ranked teams starting in the Big 10 with No. 4 Ohio State on the road against No. 16 Northwestern in an 8 p.m. start on ABC. The Buckeyes have rolled to victories in their first five games by a combined score of 241-85 and they are 3-1-1 against the spread. They opened play in the Big Ten last Saturday with a hard fought 31-24 victory over then-No. 23 Wisconsin as seven-point home favorites.
Northwestern is coming off a bye week after a 4-0 SU (2-2 ATS) start as a solid favorite in all four games. The Wildcats are ranked 22nd in the nation in scoring with an average of 41.3 points a game. They are 0-4 both SU and ATS in the last four meetings against the Buckeyes and have been listed as 5.5-point home underdogs for this season’s inter-division showdown.
Later Saturday night in a 10:30 p.m. start, the No. 15 Washington Huskies will travel to Palo Alto to face the No. 5 Stanford Cardinal in a Pac-12 North Division tilt. The Huskies are 4-0 SU (3-1 ATS) and opened play in the conference last week with a 31-13 romp over Arizona as 8.5-point home favorites. They have been opened as 6.5-point road underdogs for this Saturday night’s game.
The revenge factor will be high in this game after Washington ended the Cardinal’s run at a national title last season with a stunning 17-13 victory as a seven-point underdog at home. Stanford is also off to a 4-0 SU (2-2 ATS) start including a 55-17 rout of Washington State as a nine-point road favorite in its conference opener this past Saturday.
A few other top 10 teams in action this Saturday have No. 3 Clemson on the road as a 13-point favorite in an ACC clash against conference newcomer Syracuse. No. 6 Georgia will be back in action after last week’s huge 44-41 victory over LSU as three-point home favorites. The Bulldogs will face Tennessee in a SEC clash as 11-point favorites on the road.
