College Football Betting Trends- Week 2 Matchups
The new college football season got underway this past weekend and as we head into Week 2 there are a couple of huge matchups on the slate that are bound to have a major impact of the early rankings. The following is a brief betting guide for a few of these games involving the top teams in the nation along with opening lines as provided by BetOnline.
The first big game on Saturday’s slate is a high noon SEC/ACC clash between No. 10 Florida and the Miami Hurricanes. The Gators put forth a lackluster effort in their season opener with a 24-6 victory over Toledo as 22-point home favorites while Miami cruised to a 34-6 win over Florida Atlantic but it could not cover either as a 31-point favorite at home. Florida has been opened as a three-point road favorite for this Saturday’s game with the total line set at 49. These two last met in 2008 with the Gators coming away with a 26-3 win as 24-point home favorite.
No. 8 Clemson is sure to move up in the polls after knocking off then-No.5 Georgia 38-35 as a 1.5-point home underdog. This week the Tigers take a break by playing host to Division IAA South Carolina State in a game that does not currently have a posted line. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. this Saturday.
Oregon started the season ranked No. 3 in the AP preseason poll and then proceeded to crush D IAA Nicholls State 66-3 in its season opener as a 58.5-point home favorite. This week the Ducks step up in class a bit with a road matchup against the Virginia Cavaliers. They are coming of a mild 19-16 upset of BYU as 2.5-point home underdogs. Virginia has been opened as a 22-point home underdog for this game with the total set at 64. This Pac-12/ACC battle is slated to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
The Georgia Bulldogs will keep their feet to the fire for the second week in a row when they play host this Saturday to the No. 6 South Carolina Gamecocks in a game that could go a long way towards determining which team wins this season’s SEC East Division title. The Gamecocks are coming off a solid 27-10 victory over North Carolina in their season opener as 11-point home favorites. They have been opened as three-point road underdogs for this contest with the total set at 60. South Carolina has won the last three meetings both straight-up and against the spread.
Saturday night’s big game is a classic college football showdown between No.14 Notre Dame and No. 17 Michigan. The Fighting Irish made short work of Temple in their season opener with a 28-6 win as 27.5-point home favorites. This week they take on the Wolverines as three-point road underdogs. The total line for this game is set at 50 and the kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
The No. 4-ranked team in the nation will make its season debut this Saturday night when the Stanford Cardinal plays host to San Jose State as 26.5-point favorites. The total for this game has been set at 53. The Spartans shutout Sacramento State 24-0 as 20-point home favorites in their season opener to extend their current winning streak to six games dating back to late October of 2012. They are 5-1 ATS during this same stretch of games. In 2012 San Jose State opened their season against Stanford and battled their way to a narrow three-point loss (20-17) as 26.5-point road underdogs.
