There aren’t many teams in the NFL with higher expectations than the Denver Broncos or the Seattle Seahawks. Denver is listed as Las Vegas’ clear favorite to win the Super Bowl heading into the season. Seattle broke out with star quarterback Russell Wilson last year, and the Seahawks are listed as a top five team according to most oddsmakers futures odds. Let’s take a closer look at both teams and this matchup.

Game Preview:

The Denver Broncos were stunned by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the playoffs last year. Peyton Manning and the Broncos rolled through the regular season, but they were tripped up by the eventual Super Bowl Champions. Denver didn’t just sit around this postseason. They went out and got Manning even more help. Wes Welker should be a perfect fit for this offense. Welker is a reliable slot receiver who should excel with Manning as his quarterback. Montee Ball was a nice pickup to help shore up the backfield. Look for him and Knowshown Moreno to split time with Ronnie Hillman this year at tailback.

The Broncos added a couple very good cornerbacks in Quentin Jammer and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. With Champ Bailey still playing well, the Broncos secondary is now one of the best in the league. The loss of Elvis Dumervil will hurt the pass rush, but Von Miller is still here. Look for Denver’s first-teamers to stick around a little longer this week. The Broncos played a lot of backups early on in their 10-6 win over the 49ers last week.

Seattle went to Washington and won in the first round of the NFL playoffs last season. They then went to Atlanta and came back from a massive deficit to take the lead late, only to see Atlanta win the game in the final seconds. The Seahawks got some amazing play out of rookie Russell Wilson. Wilson beat out Matt Flynn for the job in the preseason, and he showed why during the regular season. Seattle has found their franchise quarterback in Wilson. Seattle loves to run the football and rookie Christine Michael should help this team right away in 2013. Look for him to get plenty of chances to back up Marshawn Lynch.

The Seahawks defense is very good as well. Seattle’s front seven makes it nearly impossible to run the football against this team. Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett were added in the offseason, and they should make this pass rush one of the best in the NFL. Pete Carroll places a higher emphasis on winning in the preseason than most NFL coaches. Carroll’s 19-9-1 ATS mark is one of the best in the league today. You can expect to see a pretty good amount of the starters from Seattle in this game.

Free NFL Pick: Seattle -5

Seattle will probably fight a little harder to win this game based on their coaches past history in the preseason. The Seahawks have a lot of depth on both sides of the ball as well.
