Having won four straight and nine of their last 11 games, the Dodgers appear to be heating up at the right time. Trailing the division leading Diamondbacks by just 1.5 games, the boys from Chavez Ravine could make the improbable leap from last to first before the break. Manager Don Mattingly, who weeks ago was rumored to be on his way out, will now call on ace Clayton Kershaw to help propel his team into first place. The lefty, who leads the league with a 1.89 ERA, has won his last three starts in convincing fashion, posting a 1.08 ERA while striking out 18 batters. Additionally, Kershaw has fared well against the Rockies, compiling an 8-4 career record with a 3.54 ERA.

Sharing a mound with Kershaw is righthander Juan Nicasio. The young pitcher has struggled with confidence inssues, leading to a 4-4 record and 5.31 ERA, but is coming off a stellar start in triple-A where he threw eight scoreless innings. The righthander has showed an impressive skill set, but facing Clayton Kershaw isn't going to get him amped to pitch. Look for Nicasio to struggle early, forcing the bullpen to shoulder the load for several innings while the Dodgers pile on the runs.

Kershaw and the Dodgers will put this game away early. Expect the lefty to pitch deep into the game, possibly going the distance as he pushes the Dodgers closer to the top spot in the west.
