The Sox are in desperate need of a series win, having lost five of their last six to increase their deficit to 14 games behind the division leading Tigers. The North Siders have had just two series wins since May 27 and the road only gets tougher as they now face the Phillies, winners of five of their last seven contests.

The Sox will call on lefty John Danks to right the ship on Friday. A tough luck loser, Danks has lost two out of his last three starts despite tossing quality starts in each of those outings. He seems to have found his groove and his unfamiliarity to Phillies batters should translate into success. The Phillies have struggled to hit lefties this season, so look for Danks to hold them scoreless over the first few frames.

Facing Danks is rookie right hander Jonathan Pettibone, making his 16th career start and hoping to build on his early success. The 22 year old has posted a 5-3 record with a 3.84 ERA, including a stellar 3-1 mark with a 2.45 when pitching in Philadelphia. Look for Pettibone to make a solid start in his ninth career outing at Citizens Bank Park, but for Danks to edge him out in what should be a low scoring affair.

The White Sox have struggled all season to muster enough offense to support their pitching staff, but Friday will be a different story. Pettibone will hit a bump in the road, forcing the Phillies bullpen to try and carry the load of several innings in a losing fashion.
