St. Louis Cardinals at LA Angels Pick/Preview July 2
Playing their best baseball of the season, the Angels will look to continue their six game win streak behind the arm of ace Jered Weaver. After missing nearly two months with a broken elbow, Weaver returned to the rotation with some rust on his arm. Following a three-game losing streak, the right hander found his groove against the Tigers, allowing one run over seven innings in his last outing. Weaver has faced the Cardinals twice in his career, tossing a quality start in his last outing against the birds in 2010.
Weaver will need to be at his best against the Cards as they hand the ball to Lance Lynn. One of the top pitchers in the NL this season, Lynn has compiled a 10-2 record with a 3.52 ERA. Lynn appears to be slowing down a bit from his torrid start, posting a 5.79 ERA over his last three starts. Further worrying the Cardinals faithful, the right hander has registered a 4.72 ERA on the road this season. With the Angels offense clicking and Josh Hamilton finally emerging out of a three month slump, Lynn could be in for his second straight loss.
Weaver and the Angels will provide too much of a challenge for Lynn on Tuesday. Look for Pujols to drive in a few runs against his former club en route to a convincing win.
